Thought I'd have a go at this haunting piece. :D

~~~
Erithane ran across the battle field, little caring that her gown continued to snag on debris. The Eldonian princess stopped to catch her breath, her legs shaking from the effort.
The carnage of warfare lay strewn around her. A tattered penant fluttered in the breeze, the remaining marks of the Corsivan Empire were still visible.
Erithane's mouth dropped open. Their kingdom was so strong! Who could have done this?!
A moan rose up from the shattered remains of a catapult beside her. Peering into it, she saw the still form of a young warrior. The girl looked no older than a child, but her blue armor confirmed she was a member of the Corsivan army. She was so still, Erithane thought she was hearing things, when the warrior maiden's eye lid twitched.
"She's still alive!" she gasped. Carefully shoving the wooden beams out of the way, Erithane climbed inside the brittle structure. She gently lifted the warrioress off the ground. "Maybe you can tell me what happened," she whispered, trudging up a hill through the mud and ripped up earth.
Her shredded dress flapped helplessly in the breeze, when a deep rumble caught her off guard. Turning around with her heavy burden in her arms, she didn't see anything worth notice, until a shadow formed on the horizon.
Taller than the castle's spire, a serpent's head towered in the darkness, its red eyes burning. They locked on her, making Erithane shudder. The enormous black sails stirred the smoke filled air, sending the dragon's form into the shadows, its fiery eyes the last to blink out.
Clutching the girl close to her chest, Erithane turned and ran back to Eldron as fast as she could. Father needs to know about this!
